Tansy

Some herbs are effective for keeping bugs away from animals too. One of the most common wild plants used for repelling insects is tansy. It is easy to identify and collect and usually grows prolifically; it also dries nicely for floral arrangements. Hung in bunches near doorways, windows, in and around animal stalls and barns, it is used as a fly repellent. Be sure to keep it where the animals can’t eat it, because it is toxic in large amounts—same for humans: don’t eat it! To repel ants, sprinkle dried and crumbled tansy flower and leaf around house foundations, thresholds, cupboards, and anywhere in their path.
